MIDVALE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION AREA DIRECTORS' MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY January 25, 2022, 6:45 pm Meeting held at via video conference via Zoom due to corona virus epidemic. Present: J. Cardin, B. Roe, J. Walter, K. Walter, D. Lamb, T. Jarvis, R. Rotter, W. Weber, E. Rogers, G. Fischer, J. Veto, J. Lager, C. Kreimendahl Also present: Cathy Rotter, Nan Lager, Yannette Figueroa Cole, Kathy Losby Cardin called the meeting to order at 6:47 p.m. 1. Blood Drive - Set for 3/3 at Sequoya Library. Need additional donors ro sign up. Losby explained their PR efforts. Volunteers are welcome too. 2. Alder Report - Cardin explained redistricting that put us in District 11 with Alder Arvina Martin. Figueroa Cole reported on Council’s action on Dunn’s Marsh watershed project, Metro bus redesign, Rapid transit, Traffic/Speeding issues, unsheltered/homelessness services and next budget. 3. County Board - Cardin outlined redistricting for county reps that splits MHCA in two. Candidates for those seats are unopposed for the April election. 4. Westside Neighborhood Groups - Cardin announced first meeting Friday for some nearby neighborhood associations to discuss collaboration for grants, projects, issues or services that they share an interest in. 5. Lake Wingra Watershed - Cardin reported contact from the organizers of a 5/21 Fair at Vilas Park to promote/educate about water quality issues. Possible MHCA sponsorship and booth/table available. Weber and Green Team will gather info and report back at next meeting. 6. Green Team: Weber has set up two programs in March and on April 7 on recycling and gardening at Library. Possible solar education workshop with films this summer. 7. Research Park Noise - Cardin relayed Paul Haskew’s report about noise muffling at two businesses located on Science Dr. Brief mention of development on SW corner of Whitney Way/Mineral Point Rd. 8. Yoga Class - J. Walter referenced proposed 8-week course as fundraiser, but there are Covid and timing issues. Suggests keeping it on the back burner for now. 9. Black Home Ownership - Neighbor has a group that seeks to speak on this at February meeting. 10. Snow Sculpture - Cardin said nearby neighborhoods want us to co-sponsor a sculpting contest which encourages residents to take part in this winter activity. Details are on their website where a map will exist to guide folks to see the artistic creations. Set to start this month into March. There will be community voting and prizes. Motion/2nd to contribute $150 for prizes for this project. Motion carried. 11. Minutes: Motion/2nd to approve September and November minutes. Motion carried. 12. Treasurer’s report - Bill for ash tree treatment was $198. Motion/2nd to approve that payment. Motion carried. 13. Announcements: Rotter cited a West High 2030 100th Year Anniversary group that is putting together a history book about the school. Weber wonders whether in-person meetings/events at Library make sense given Covid status. Consensus that it’s okay provided folks wear masks.
