MIDVALE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION AREA DIRECTORS’ MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY November 28, 2023, 6:45 pm Meeting held in person and via Zoom. Present: J. Cardin, B. Roe, J. Walter, J. Thoreson, C. Gibbons, T. Jarvis, L. Raihala, R. Rotter, D. Beilke, J. Okech, C. Wacker, G. Fischer, J. Veto, J. Lager, C. Kreimendahl Also present: Nan Lager, Bill Tishler, Bob Park, Kent Skog 1. Cardin called the meeting to order at 6:48 p.m. Introductions followed. 2. Legislators’ Reports - Alder Tishler reported that the new Oak Park Heights (Piper) Park playground equipment is installed and open. There will be a 12/11 6pm Zoom meeting to discuss choice of new climbing equipment there. At City Council, there has been a new proposal for the 4th residential apartment building at HyVee/Westgate which will include affordable units. There is an effort to save trees along Midvale Blvd. For Madison Yards location, the new hotel was approved. Ongoing discussions of BRT/zoning ordinance restrictions. Next Town Hall book club on 1/17 “How To Change Minds”. 3. Skog reviewed the WIDE-FM outreach efforts including plans for 2024. Motion/2nd to authorize $590 to WIDE for operating expenses. Motion carried. 4. Minutes: Motion/2nd to approve Sept. and Oct. minutes. Motion carried. 5. Treasurer’s Report: Rotter reported a balance of $48,079.61 total assets/cash. 6. Membership: Jarvis cited membership at 381 households and member donations at $3023. Some discussion about the next directory being online only. Will need dedicated effort to recruit Discount Card businesses. Gibbons and the Walters will handle developing new neighbor welcome packets. 7. Officer Election: Nominations were accepted for President - Cardin, Vice Pres. - Raihala, Treasurer - Rotter and Secretary - Kreimendahl. Motion/2nd to elect all. Motion carried. 8. City Website: Some neighborhood associations are seeking consensus on a city-based neighborhood website. 9. Santa Visits: Yes, they are happening per the organizers the Schells. 10. Blood Drive: Red Cross is seeking volunteers for the 1/11/24 drive. Announcements: None. Meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m. Submitted by C. Kreimendahl, Secy.
