MIDVALE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY August 23, 2022, 6:45 pm
Meeting held in person and via Zoom (noted technical issues) due to pandemic.
Present: J. Cardin, B. Roe, J. Thoreson, K. Walter, J. Walter, D. Lamb, T. Jarvis, R. Rotter, J. Veto, G. Fischer, W. Weber, J. Lager, C. Kreimendahl
Also Present: Alder Bill Tishler, Cathy Rotter, Dustin Bielke, Nan Lager
Cardin called the meeting to order at 6:47 p.m.
1. Minutes: Motion/2nd to approve June minutes. Motion carried.
2. Treasurer’s Report: Rotter distributed report showing about $40,582 in funds. Also showed recent transactions and account categories.
3. Motion/2nd to appoint Dustin Beilke as Area 10 Co-Director (with W. Weber). Motion carried.
4. Alder Report: Bill Tishler updated District 11 issues. City Council in-person meetings have resumed. Three proposals are pending before Council: (A) Ban of laboratory test breeding animals; (B) Ban police from using tear gas/rubber bullets; © Zoning changes for higher density housing along Bus Rapid Transit line.
Town Hall meeting with City traffic engineer was effective in getting Area concerns to City. Next one set for 9/8 at 7 pm at Sequoya Library. Another tentatively set for 10/3 will feature the AARP “walkability” representative. B Cycle station at Library remains a possibility.
5. Annual Meeting: Cardin seeking ideas for a speaker for the 10/25 meeting. Even-numbered area directors are up for election. Cider/cookies as in past with donations welcome.
6. MHCA Newsletter: Further discussion about discontinuing print newsletter in favor of online only. Motion/2nd to go online only for this issue. Motion carried.
7. Compost Bins: Kreimendahl ordered free bins from City but they will only give four due to high demand. He will pick up and bring to annual meeting to be given out by lottery.
8. Green Team: Weber working on November meeting with a speaker. Next spring the Tokay median gardens will be redone. The Odana Prairie tour was cancelled due to weather.
9. Segoe Concerts: Successes recounted as some concerts had 200+ attendees.
10. Blood Drive: Also successful was the Red Cross event at Sequoya Library on 8/11. Next drive on 10/17 at Sequoya is being sponsored by Westmorland; then December drive sponsor is Sunset Village. Volunteers should contact Kathy Losby. Next MHCA-sponsored drive will be 2023.
11. Announcements: Cardin relayed that Sunset Village president says a church there is for sale and may be converted to a westside senior center.

Garage Sales: Coordinator Michelle and Jarvis registered 30 homes for the Labor Day weekend annual garage sale. Map available online.
